As Agence France-Presse correspondent I covered Irish politics, including the 2016 general election and the landmark referendum to legalise gay marriage.

I wrote about the Healy Rae family and the dynastic aspect of Irish politics, where seats in parliament are often passed down in the same families for generations. It’s a “startling element” of the political system, according to political science professor Gail McElroy.

spoke to Ireland’s Gerry Adams for AFP ahead of an election he hoped would be history for his Sinn Féin party, as voters angry at years of austerity turned away from centrist parties.

I reported on a series of shootings on ordinary Dublin streets, followed by threats to journalists, that shocked a nation ahead of a general election.
