As Agence France-Presse correspondent O’Leary covered Irish politics for an international audience, including the 2016 general election and the landmark referendum to legalise gay marriage.

O’Leary spoke to Ireland’s Gerry Adams for AFP ahead of an election he hoped would be history for his Sinn Féin party, as voters angry at years of austerity turned away from centrist parties.

Reporting on a series of shootings on ordinary Dublin streets, followed by threats to journalists, that shocked a nation ahead of a general election.
